Ornamental Metal

Many of the historical buildings in this country were built in architectural periods where the aesthetics of the roof was an important element of the overall aesthetics. Though slate and metal roofs have much intrinsic beauty, patterns in the roof and ornamental elements such as finials, collector heads, decorative cornice, and other fancy metallic roof protrusions added another aspect of beauty to the exterior fabric. These items can also uniquely customize new roof installations.

Gutter Systems

A well-designed and properly installed gutter system is a very important element of the roof. In particular, leaks in built-in gutters, such a box gutters, yankee gutters, pole gutters, etc. can cause extensive interior damage, and, if not properly repaired, may result in structural damage.

Properly built box gutters with pre-tinned, well soldered joints and well-scheduled control joints can last many decades with minimal maintenance. An improperly built gutter structure or poorly installed liner can fail within just a few freeze-thaw cycles. Thus this work done right is critical to the longterm water tightness of the exterior envelope.

Durable Slate also installs all types of hanging copper gutters from standard 16 ounce K style to custom heavy gauge gutters with bar stock supports that will with stand the harshest winters. We are able to replicate any fancy ornamental gutters, collector heads, and downspouts.

Other services

Though not part of our everyday work of traditional slate, clay tile, and metal roofing, Durable Slate employs artisans who are able to install just about any traditional roof system found in the world. This includes thatch roofs, green roofs, lead roofs, wood shake and shingle (certified LifePine installer), German-style slate roofs, French-style slate roofs, and sandstone roofs. We also apply our trades to indoor commercial settings.
