A savage hail storm left this Arkansas mansion's original Ludowici "Celadon Slate" beyond repair.
Thankfully, the owner's business partner had already worked with The Durable Slate Company and strongly recommended us for historic roof repair.
After our expert roof consultation, the owner decided to replace their ruined tile with the most lasting roofing slate available - Virginia Patriot Gray/ Black slate - complemented beautifully with copper gutters, flashings, and a small flat-lock soldered copper roof. And while copper develops a natural green patina as it ages, the owner chose custom Freedom Gray copper gutters for their zinc/tin coating. This will protect the newly installed slate from possible discoloration. And finally, The Durable Slate Company is committed to building exceptional roofs, finely crafted to the last nail. To this end, we used only premium copper nails throughout, replacing the original stainless steel woodscrews. Natural slate - and especially Virginia Patriot Gray/ Black - is incredibly long lasting and demands an equally durable fastener. An armor is only as strong as its weakest link; short lived materials like steel simply aren't good enough.
The main house, detached garage, and pool house are absolutely transformed by their new slate roof and copper gutters, a vision to behold over the coming decades and centuries.
