Frank Lloyd Wright's Westcott House

Restoration of the Burton J. Westcott house, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, was a real Cinderella story because it had suffered great deterioration. Durable Slate worked its restoration magic through zealous research and faithful adherence to stringent restoration guidelines. The Westcott house was opened to the public in October, 2005.

Reese Peters House
Lancaster, Ohio

This project encompassed the interior and exterior ground-up restoration and renovation of a treasured historic structure in Fairfield County. Built in 1834 by attorney William Reese, the mansion was completely restored to provide a home for the Decorative Arts Center of Ohio.

This adaptive reuse project is beautifying a former historic restaurant which is now a residence.

Pittsfield, Massachusetts
At this residence in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, a new slate roof and several copper roofs were installed. An existing flat-roofed shed dormer was removed, and a new Palladian dormer was built.

The Columbus Foundation
Columbus, Ohio

The building was used as the governor's residence until 1957. The home fell into disrepair over the years before it was purchased by The Columbus Foundation. Restoration of the Palm Room is one of the projects undertaken by The Durable Slate Company.

Hotel St. Clair
Columbus, Ohio

This historic building was virtually abandonded for decades, and was recently restored with financial help from historic tax credits and grants. This financing required all repairs to match the existing architectural details or to be recreated from historic photographs.

The Dimond House
Springfield, Ohio

The Dimond House was constructed in the late 1880s. The project restored classic traits of the Queen Anne style, such as multiple gables, turrets, wrap-around porches, and decorative siding shapes.

Urbana, Ohio

The Hotel Sowles has been a landmark building for the City of Urbana for almost 200 years. This classic example of midwest architecture needed extensive restoration to save the structure.

40 Monument Square
Urbana, Ohio

This complete exterior restoration project was part of a Community Developement Block Grant program. The work involved structural stabilization as well as detailed attention to concrete, wood, the building's upper and lower moldings, windows, headers, sashes and sills.

Ohio Village
Columbus, Ohio

The Ohio Historical Society's Ohio Village was updated to provide a presentation space for the public. Other improvements included masonry, carpentry and roofing work which were completed so as to blend with the existing structures.

Neil Armstrong Air & Space Museum
Wapakoneta, Ohio

An addition was built to provide the museum with additional display space, as well as a ramp access to accommodate visitors with disabilities. The new portion of the building matched beautifully with the existing structure.
